Lot 86 A Halston dappled yellow chiffon caftan, circa 1975

unlabelled, with uneven dye creating a subtle dappled effect, outsized

Halston met Will & Eileen Richardson on the streets of New York, where they were displaying their tie-dye fabrics. He took them back to his studio and asked them to produce tie-dye, batik and other 'hippy' style prints for his couture dresses. These three printed kaftans were commissioned by a New York socialite.

small split at rolled edge of rear neck closure, vertical repair approx 7cm long centre-front neck, button centre is missing and hole to where chiffon has been pulled - just the chiffon covering remains has been altered/shortened so now it doesn't close, small nick in seam below closure, numerous small holes have been rebacked with chiffon and scattering of tiny pinhead holes around rear right shoulder area, more rebacked holes to front right hem area, hem has been probably been shortene, it is not as tightly hand rolled as the rest of the edgings (see pics)
