In 1963 Rudi Gernreich received the coveted Coty Award for this tweed suit with outsized hound’s tooth check, with one curved lapel, the other angular. Norman Norell was so outraged that he returned his own award, received some years earlier in protest. Peggy was photographed wearing the suit when she visited London in 1965. Norell later acceded that he thought Gernreich was a great designer.
